Browsing the digitized Wörterbuch der ägyptischen Sprache
Clicking on "Browse the Wörterbuch der ägyptischen Sprache" will produce the first page of the first volume of the Wörterbuch der ägyptischen Sprache. Users
may browse the Wörterbuch by using the arrow keys or by entering search values in the appropriate fields of the form. To this end, users may select one number from among the volume numbers I to
V, enter the requested page of the dictionary and click on "Start".
On the dictionary page shown, users may click on the desired encoded citation number (Belegstellenzahl) of the handwritten page to view all slips in the Digitized Slip Archive that are
associated with this number. These slips will be displayed in a separate browser window.
PLEASE NOTE: The lemma card (L) will always come first. This card is usually followed by a number of spelling slips (Schreibungszettel), by occasional rider cards (R1, R2),
and, only after these, by the slips with the copied texts. The text slips marked with handwritten encoded citation numbers, the so-called citation slips (Belegzettel (B)), are bibliographically
referenced in the reference volumes of the Wörterbuch der ägyptischen Sprache. They precisely reflect the usage of the word as cited in the dictionary. Non-marked text slips (Z) are now
referenced on the Internet for the first time. They are as relevant, but word usage here may differ or vary from what is indicated in the dictionary.
To see more citations, users may return to the
window displaying the dictionary pages (which is still open), and use the scrolling function in the upper margin.
