Keyboard AAEW

Keyboard layout for the (free) keyboard software Keyman for the editing of Egyptological transliteration.

How to make it work

  2. Keyboard layout

    - AAEW-German-QWERTZ, v2.0, file aaew_german.kmx from GitHub.com (by S.D. Schweitzer)
    - AAEW-US_Int-QWERTY, v2.01, file aaew_american.kmx from GitHub.com (by S.D. Schweitzer)

  3. Start Keyman Desktop programm.

  4. Install the .kmx file in Keyman.

Feedback on AAEW keyboard

For feedback, contact the layout designer Simon Schweitzer directly, or post an issue on Github.com.

Usage

  • Normal Latin characters that are often used in transliterations (including the vowels a, i, and u) are preferably placed on their usual keys, e.g, [H] => "H".
  • Egyptological transliteration characters are usually created by a combination of a Latin character and a diacritic. See the following table, e.g., [´]-[h] => 'ḫ'.

MdC2Unicode keyboard

Keyboard layout for the (free) keyboard software Keyman for the editing of Egyptological transliteration in Unicode based on Egyptological Manuel de Codage.

How to make it work

  1. Download Keyman software (if now already installed), from: https://keyman.com/

  2. Download keyboard layout MdC2Unicode-DE, v0.9 (beta), file mdc2unicode.kmx from GitHub.com (by D.A. Werning)
  3. Start Keyman Desktop programm.

  4. Install the .kmx file in Keyman.

Feedback on MdC2Unicode

For feedback, contact the layout designer Daniel Werning directly, or post an issue on Github.com.

Usage

  • Egyptological transliteration characters are placed on key according to Egyptological Manuel de Codage (with additional keys as used in legacy font Umschrift_TTn), e.g., [A] => 'ꜣ'.
  • Majucules can be entered by an additional [´] before the minuscule (dead key 'majuscule'), e.g., [´]-[A] => capital 'Ꜣ'.
  • Standard keys of the German keyboard can be entered by an additional [`] before the key (dead key 'original'), e.g., [`]-[A] => "A".
